2008 Spring Fishing Report

March is here already. The Grouper have been running good this year, better than last year. Before Federal waters closed ( Feb15th--March15th) I got reports off boats catching them good, 20 to 30 pounders! so that is a good indication there is going to be some great grouper fishing when it opens again March15th. Last year was a little slow for Amberjacks, we caught them but some days we really had to work to catch them, but this year so far there has been a good run of Amberjacks and we've have been catching them on all the regular Amberjack haunts, actually they have been everywhere in Federal waters.

Red Snapper Season opens in State waters on April 15th. If you have fished with me before you know how the Red Snapper fishing is, it's GREAT!!! There are so many Red Snapper on my places, (especially my shallow water places). I think we might try catching them on our light tackle (on top water), so grab your bass fishing tackle and come go fishing with me.

Cobia season is just around the corner, they should start showing up about mid March. If you remember last year we got that cold weather in the beginning of April, it even snowed a little here one mourning, but after the weather warmed up the Cobia came through in bunches and lasted until about mid May. I haven't seen a run of Cobia like that in many years. If you have never fished for Cobia before, well your missing out. We fish for them with light tackle and they average about 40-50 lbs and get up to 100lbs along our coast. We sight fish for them, meaning we cruise up and down the coast about 100 to 300 yards off the beach, and when we spot some we cast live baits to them and then hold on! It's allot like hunting but for fish. Tarpon,Bonefish,Redfish and even Bass are fished for the same way.
